Annual Report 2018

We would like to thank each of you for your generous contributions and support to St. Paul’s of Monee Cemetery. We could not maintain our beautiful grounds without your continued support. 

2018 Cemetery Board election resulted in Christina Holston as President, Judie Popp as Secretary and Josh Reading as Treasurer.  Darren Deutsche, and Rachel White agreed to remain involved as advisors. 

Brian Cann was retained for the 2018 mowing season. Brian and his crew did an excellent job and saved the congregation a considerable amount of money from past years. We are happy with their service.

There were 4  burials this year and 0 new plot sales.

Cleanup days were held in May and September.

St Paul’s cemetery allowed the Monee Alliance of Churches to use a small portion of the land south of the last main road on the cemetery property to set up a test community garden.  All produce from the garden will goes to local food pantries.  The garden was well maintained during the growing season

A permanent sign and map board were installed in the cemetery to help those looking for relatives’ gravesites, as well as provide contact and other cemetery related information.  The map will be updated annually or as needed.

A cemetery survey was completed to assess the condition of early stone markers and imitate a long-term plan for the preservation and improvement of our cemetery.  We will publish our findings and long-range plans on the website when they have been finalized.

The second annual fund-raising letter campaign to raise money for lawn care and improvements was a success. The donation envelopes in the pews generated a small but steady revenue stream.

A Christmas wreath sale offered live wreaths and crosses for placement in the cemetery.  This was successful and we hope to make this an annual fund-raising event.

 Between the lower lawn care costs and the donation revenue, the cemetery is in a better financial position that at the close of 2017.

Beginning balance in the operating account $ 39428.36

Ending balance in the operating account $ 47,952.01

We appreciate the support from the congregation and to all friends of St Paul’s historic cemetery, who helped make 2018 a year in which we continued to improve the financial health of the cemetery and heading in a positive direction.

Thanks again for helping us keep St. Paul’s Cemetery a beautiful resting place for our loved ones.
