2017 Cemetary Annual Report

Published April 10, 2018 by David Holston Holston in Cemetery

First and foremost, we would like to thank each of you for your generous contributions and support to St. Paul’s of Monee Cemetery. We could not maintain our beautiful grounds without your continued support.

2017 Cemetery Board election resulted in Carl Lowe as President, David Holston as Secretary and Judie Popp as Treasurer.  Darren Deutsche, Gary Ramirez and Rachel White agreed to remain involved as advisors.

Lawn Care companies were contacted to place bids. Brian Cann was retained for the 2017 mowing season. Brian and his crew did an excellent job and saved the congregation a considerable amount of money from past years. We are happy with their service.

There were six Burials this year and one new plot sale.

Cleanup days were held in May and September. The DAR held Their annual service project day at the cemetery and cleaned and uncovered some stones that were overgrown. During the Love Monee Day project in August, several teens form the area worked in the cemetery to trim branches and pull weeds.

St Paul’s cemetery allowed the Monee Alliance of Churches to use a small portion of the land south of the last main road  on the cemetery property to set up a test community garden. All produce from the garden will go to local food pantries.

A page on the church website for cemetery news, history and a donation portal has been initiated and was launched in 2017.

The first annual fund-raising letter campaign to raise money for lawn care and improvements was a success. The new donation envelopes in the pews generated a small but steady revenue stream.  Between the lowers lawn care costs and the donation revenue, the cemetery is in a better financial position that at the close of 2016.

Beginning balance in the operating account $37,180.86

Ending balance in the operating account $39428.36

We appreciate the support from the congregation and to all friends of St Paul’s historic cemetery, who helped make 2017 the year in which we continued to improve the financial health of the cemetery and continue heading in a positive direction.

Thanks again for helping us keep St. Paul’s Cemetery a beautiful resting place for our loved ones.
